Upbeat, intriguing and magnificent. “SHADES” recalls an electric summer night in the south of France. Narrating a Bohemian getaway in a region so precious to the duo, where they grew up. The song unfurls as a contemplative daydream in the style of Calvin Harris' Funk Wav Bounces albums, and builds to a relentless pop chorus, influenced by French touch artists such as Daft Punk. "SHADES" inspiration sparked during a trip in the south of France, which brought back memories to the duo. In June 2023, CICADA. was invited by a childhood friend to compose and produce runway music for a fashion show featuring his latest collection in Marseille.

CICADA. is the association of two brothers, Nathan and Elliott, 20 and 23. Born in Paris, they grew up in Provence, South of France, where lavender fields and azure coastlines extend as far as the eye can see. The vivid energy of the region left an indelible imprint on their souls, infusing their sound with the warmth and radiance of Mediterranean sunshine.
During their upbringing, the brothers' musical education blossomed on family road trips, where they found themselves captivated by the sonic artistry of Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Calvin Harris, and Justice. These names not only provided the soundtrack to their youth but also became the inspiration that fuelled their musical identity. After moving to London, the duo found a land for their creative spirit.
Immersed in London's diverse cultural scene, they were introduced to Alternative Hip Hop as they discovered artists like Tyler, the Creator, Kaytranada, Kanye West, and Kid Cudi. Finally, in June 2023, the brothers decided to collaborate and began recording their first song together.
